A Filipino citizen can apply for OCI from the Philippines through the online portal and the Embassy of India in Manila if they are the spouse of an Indian citizen or OCI cardholder with a registered marriage of at least two years, a minor child of an Indian citizen, or a descendant up to great-grandchild of an eligible Indian citizen. We check eligibility, assemble apostilled evidence and resolve problems such as name mismatches before submission.

OCI Card Issues from the Philippines: how it works
Most applications from the Philippines are based on marriage or parentage. For spouses, we need the apostilled PSA marriage certificate, proof that the marriage has lasted two years, the Indian spouse's passport or OCI card and evidence of the relationship. For children, the PSA birth certificate naming the Indian parent is central. For ancestry claims, we gather Indian passports, old citizenship records or land documents that show the ancestor's Indian citizenship. The online form is completed carefully, because a mistake in the father's name or place of birth is a common reason for queries from the Embassy.
The Embassy forwards the application for processing, which includes a security clearance for spouses. Once the OCI is granted, the cardholder can enter India without a visa for life, but must not work in restricted areas such as journalism or missionary activity without permission. OCI cardholders can buy residential and commercial property in India but not agricultural land, plantation property or farmhouses except by inheritance. When a child turns twenty, or a passport is renewed after that age, the OCI details should be updated on the portal.
What clients in the Philippines should know
- A Filipino spouse whose marriage ends in divorce loses the basis for OCI, and the card may be cancelled, so tell us about any pending separation.
- Philippine dual citizenship rules do not affect OCI, but an Indian citizen who acquires Philippine citizenship must surrender the Indian passport before applying for OCI.
- Name changes after marriage are common in the Philippines; keep the passport, PSA certificate and OCI application consistent to avoid delay.

Questions from clients in the Philippines
Can my Filipino wife apply for OCI before two years of marriage?
No. The marriage must be registered and have subsisted for at least two continuous years before the spouse category applies. Until then she can travel on an Indian visa.
Is OCI the same as Indian citizenship?
No. OCI is a lifelong visa and residence status with some economic rights. It does not give voting rights or an Indian passport.
Our child was born in Cebu to an Indian father. Indian passport or OCI?
If the birth was registered with the Embassy within the time allowed, the child may be an Indian citizen by descent. Otherwise OCI is usually the route. We check which applies before you file.
